The partnership, the first of several anticipated engagements, will evaluate Zapata’s Orquestra® as the platform of choice for developing future quantum astrophysics applications

BOSTON, October 06, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Zapata Computing, Inc., a leader in business quantum software, today announced a partnership agreement with the UK University of Hull. The partnership will support research to evaluate Orquestra, Zapata’s quantum workflow platform to enhance a quantum application designed to recognize signatures of life in space.

The evaluation takes eight weeks before the team publishes an analysis of the research. It is expected to be the first of several collaborations between Zapata and the University of Hull for quantum astrophysics applications.

In 2016, MIT researchers did recommended a list of over 14,000 molecules that could indicate signs of life in the atmosphere of exoplanets. However, little is currently known about how these molecules vibrate and rotate in response to infrared radiation generated by nearby stars. The EA Milne Center for Astrophysics at the University of Hull has set out to create a database of detectable biological signatures using new computational models of molecular rotations and vibrations, including models that use quantum computing.

Quantum computers enable extremely accurate calculations of the key variables that define atom-atom interactions – electronic correlation – and could thus improve scientists’ ability to see the building blocks of life in space. This is especially important because even simple molecules like oxygen or nitrogen have complex interactions that require very precise calculations.

With Orquestra we can develop applications today that use these NISQ devices with the ability to use the more powerful quantum devices of the future. “
