This newly created position will be dedicated to strengthening the plastics business by providing in-depth sorting expertise to customers focused on plastic flake recycling.

With his experience in virgin polymer production, Olsson will take the lead to support the plastics market’s transition to a circular life cycle. He will also support TOMRA’s Area Sales Management team in helping customers develop the best optical sorting technology configuration to improve process efficiency and purity of recycled plastic products.

“Eric’s educational and professional background offers a unique combination of extensive experience in the plastics industry and a broad background in chemical engineering. He understands plastic production and recycling processes and provides customers with expert assistance in their choice of sorting technology,” says Ty Rhoad, Regional Director Americas for TOMRA Recycling. “Additionally, his commitment to the circular economy and passion for the recycling industry aligns perfectly with TOMRA’s. We are excited to have Eric join our growing North American sales, applications and service support team.”

Olsson worked for petrochemical giant Braskem and has spent the last five years in process engineering and sustainable development for the production of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) resins. He was an integral part of the company’s circular economy team tasked with developing a sustainability strategy and advancing the business model for growth through recycled product offerings. Olsson holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Mississippi.

“TOMRA Recycling offers the industry superior technologies, process data collection and implementation of deep learning for complex sorting challenges. Joining the TOMRA team brings me closer to the front line of plastics recycling,” says Olsson. “Steps are needed to move the needle of industrial ecology and the transition from a linear to a circular plastics economy, and TOMRA is positioned to do it. I look forward to becoming part of a company whose passion for advancing the circular economy and closing the plastic loop can be felt in every aspect of the business.”
