Many of us turned to outdoor events during the pandemic, and to be honest, we liked them for a number of reasons beyond the safety factor. Indoor events are back as part of the LA reopening, but some things are just more fun outdoors. “Torched” from the gastro garage at the W Hotel Hollywood is a good example.
We attended the event when things started when it took place on the top level of the hotel at the nightclub known as Drai’s, a hotspot with the sparkling bottle service crowd. Before that, it was by the rooftop pool, a feature that complemented the show’s combustible energy better.
We are happy to announce that “Torched” is moving back outside to the hotel’s lounge terrace called The Station for Summer. The area adjacent to the lobby in the W has always been a best kept secret when it comes to Hollywood cocktail destinations. The live jazz nights and DJ bookings were always on point, and the decor with quirky furniture and a dramatic staircase adds to the ambiance.
Moving the event here with a view of the Pantages Theater (across the street) will certainly add to the crackle of the place. “We have been on the road for 8 years, doing pop-ups and events all over the world and wearing masks long before the pandemic,” says co-creator Adam Manacker. “With 20 sold out dates and nearly 2,000 people, Torched at the W was the Gastro Garage’s oldest residence.”
The show features a deconstructed dinner cooked with a blowtorch that includes brioche donuts (don’t go on a diet for these). Nitrose foams, meats, cheeses, oils and more are cooked using molecular gastronomy to create different textures and flavors. It’s an 8-course, high-energy experience of “Gastro Tanks,” “Drill Bits,” and “Gastro Mechanics” that turn up the heat in more than one way for a night that feels rough, automatic, and kind of post-apocalyptic mechanical theme. It’s definitely not like any other seated dinner you could have in LA?
With a number of “mechanics” on board, the garage also offers catering and off-site events in various cities. The new location (which is enclosed by windows so that spectators can take a look) will be like Hollywood headquarters, so that GG will have an “action station” in the lobby at the weekend where guests can order a tank may sell out if seats are free for dinner.
“We were fortunate to have the W as our home during the pandemic and to provide people with unique and safe outdoor dining while the indoor dining was closed,” added Manacker. “The challenge of getting out of the pandemic was dealing with the exceptions to what the future holds for each venue. We like to call ourselves a gang of traveling food pirates and keep inviting venues and event planners to get in touch to discuss how we can bring our fiery dinner experience to their location. “
