Community College adds two full-time associate degrees

St Vincent & the Grenadines Community College (SVGCC) has added an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Sports Science and an Associate of Science (AS) in Natural Sciences to its list of full-time programs in 2021/2022.

Sports and program coordinator Roxell John commented that the SVGCC, with AAS Sports Science, intends to usher in a new era of sports education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines that not only prepares students for a sports career, but also the potential for overall health to affect the well-being and productivity of the nation. Students who wish to pursue AAS Sports Science can expect to be enrolled in core subjects such as Sports Biomechanics, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Coaching Methodology and Pedagogy, Sports Management, Sports Medicine, Sports Psychology, Sports Massage, Teaching Internship, and Skills & Techniques of Sports and Games for cricket, basketball, athletics and soccer, according to a statement from the college.

The new AS Natural Sciences, according to the Department Head – Natural Sciences, Veronica Luke, is intended to respond to the growing call for more opportunities in science-based study areas. Core courses for AS Natural Sciences include Genetics, Variation and Natural Selection, Cell and Molecular Biology, Reproductive Biology, Bioenergetics, Biosystem Conservation, Applications of Biology, Basics of Chemistry, Kinetics and Equilibria, Inorganic Chemistry, Basic Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and Environment , Mechanics, vibrations and waves as well as thermal and mechanical properties of matter.

The 2021 approval for the AAS Sports Science, AS Natural Sciences, and all full-time Associate Degree, CAPE, and Certificate programs at the SVGCC Arts, Sciences, and General Studies Division (DASGS) and its Technical and Vocational Education Division (DTVE. )) is open from Saturday, October 30, 2021, 11:00 a.m. to Wednesday, November 03, 2021, 4:00 p.m.
