In the latest issue of DC Comics’ Batman ’89‘Billy Dee Williams’ Harvey Dent finally becomes the Gotham villain Two-face in the Tim Burton universe of Batman Movies. During Joel Schumacher’s Batman forever saw Tommy Lee Jones take over as the corrupt Gotham DA, fans could never see Williams having his own transformation into the classic villains from the comics. The new series based on Tim Burtons Batman and Batman returns finally reveals the dark metamorphosis of Burton’s Harvey Dent.
In Batman ’89 # 3 by the writer Sam Hamm and the artist Joe Quinones, arsonists set fire to a building in Gotham’s Burnside district. Believing the young man named Drake (the future Robin) is still trapped in it, DA Harvey Dent rushes in without a second thought to try to save him. In the end, however, he falls, with half his face being horribly burned by sulfuric acid. While Drake and Bruce Wayne eventually drag him out of the building to safety, Dent is hospitalized for the terrible cosmetic damage.
However, Harvey Dent also suffers a deep transformative psychological trauma in this new edition.
