Asurio General Manager Jack Coffelt appointed to NFPA 72 Standards Committee


Jack Coffelt will help develop new safety standards and codes related to the NFPA 72 National Fire Alarm & Signaling Code

(, developer of the BirdDog Life Safety Inspection & Data Collection System, announced today that Asurio General Manager Jack Coffelt has been appointed the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 72 Committee for Testing and Maintenance of Fire Alarm and Signaling Systems (SIG-TMS). NFPA 72 provides the latest safety regulations to meet society’s changing needs for fire detection, signaling and emergency communications. In addition to the core focus on fire alarm systems, the NFPA 72 committee also deals with requirements for mass alarm systems for weather emergencies; terrorist events; biological, chemical and nuclear emergencies; and other threats.

Jack Coffelt has decades of experience in all areas of fire protection disciplines

With more than 30 years of experience in the fire safety industry, Jack Coffelt brings extensive, hands-on knowledge of all the different disciplines of fire safety inspections – fire alarms, sprinkler and fire extinguishing systems, fire pumps and more – to his role as General Manager for Asurio, Inc.

Before joining Asurio, Inc., Mr. Coffelt worked for more than 20 years as a contractor for Fire Life Safety, including management positions in Fire Life Safety positions at Siemens; Potter Electric Signals Company; Connected computer systems; Safety fire systems; Honeywell’s Fire Department; Simplex grinnell; and Kidde-Fenwall. He also worked as a Fire & Security Technician in the US Navy for 10 years.

Mr. Coffelt now serves as a member of the Technical Committee for NFPA 72 (Fire Alarm Standards). He also participates in the NICET Fire Protection Advisory Committee (National Institute for the Certification of Engineering Professions). Mr. Coffelt has earned NICET Level IV certification for fire alarm systems; a NICET Level II in water-based fire safety testing and inspection; and he is licensed as a Texas Alarm Planning Superintendent (APS). He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) and holds a Texas Fire Alarm Planning Superintendent License.
